Computer Perfection from Lakeside (1979)

Company: Lakeside | Release date: 1979 | Ages: 8+ | # of players: 1-2 | Where to purchase: eBay

“It pushes you to your limits!”

Released in 1979 by Lakeside, Computer Perfection was a game that capitalized on the success of the original Perfection by adapting its core concept to an electronic format aligned with the era’s growing interest in computer-themed play.

GAMEPLAY

Computer Perfection traded geometric plastic shapes, an explosive game board, and countdown timer with a system of lights and sounds. Players responded to visual and audio cues in a test of memory and speed.

The unit featured four game modes: Count Down, Brain Battle, Black Hole, and Light Race, each with three skill levels. A series of 10 blue buttons, paired with illuminated shape indicators, maintained a visual connection to the original Perfection while introducing an electronic style of play.

The game’s design reflected its futuristic theme, with a white plastic housing, domed retractable lid, and angled play interface.

IN THE BOX

A complete set included the electronic game unit with integrated controls and display. The game required batteries for operation and included an instruction sheet.

COLLECTOR CONSIDERATIONS

Computer Perfection was released during a period when electronic tabletop games were beginning more common. Comparable games from the era included Simon from Milton Bradley and Merlin from Parker Brothers. Collectors should look for units with intact buttons and display elements, and a clean battery compartment.
