Released by Amsco in 1965, the Toy Supermarket Playset was a play shopping centre containing more than 125 pieces. Kids could arrange its separate components to create their own supermarket and take on the roles of shoppers and store employees.
The set included a checkout counter, cash register and table, produce bins, weighing scale, grocery rack, shopping cart, play money, coins, price cards and labels. Junior Shopkeepers could fill the store with play fruits and vegetables, food cans, bottles, grocery boxes and shopping bags.
Many of the miniature packages represented familiar grocery brands of the period. These included Kellogg’s, Heinz, Libby’s, Nabisco, Lipton, Canada Dry, Domino Sugar, Bumble Bee, Brillo, Saran Wrap, Scott, Spic & Span, Ivory Snow and several others.

COLLECTOR CONSIDERATIONS
When purchasing the Amsco Supermarket on the secondary market, compare the contents with the list printed on the box. With more than 125 pieces originally included, complete sets may be difficult to confirm at a glance. Pay particular attention to the smaller paper and cardboard accessories, and examine them for missing pieces, tears, creases or other damage.
