Pop.kins from Hasbro (1966)

Company: Hasbro | Release date: 1966 | Where to purchase: eBay

“Snap-In Kooky Wiggly’s”

Released in 1966, Pop.kins was a set of moulded plastic toys produced by Hasbro and promoted under the tagline “Snap-In Kooky Wiggly’s.” Although occasionally referred to as Popkins in period advertising, the product was not formally marketed under that name.

Each set consisted of brightly coloured blow-moulded plastic components designed to pop in and out of one another. A complete set included six interchangeable heads, six bodies, and six sets of feet. All parts were fully compatible, allowing children to repeatedly assemble and reconfigure figures into different combinations.

The individual components were small, brightly coloured, and moulded in a cartoon-like style. Box illustrations demonstrated suggested character builds made from the interchangeable parts, including a Puppy Dog, Teddy Bear, Leo Lion, Cuddly Kitty, Peppy Pig, and Goofy Gorilla.

COLLECTOR CONSIDERATIONS

Pop.kins had a limited shelf life, appearing on toy shelves for approximately one year. Complete sets are available on the secondary market, many in new, unused condition.
