The Mattel Electronics 1979 catalogue featured the nascent company’s line of handheld electronic games.
The success of its sports-themed handheld games motivated the company to add electronic versions of Hockey, Soccer, and Football II — an “all-pro version” of its existing Football game complete with two playing speeds and additional options on offence (page 3).
Beyond sports challenges, the company provided tank challenges (Armor Battle), underwater adventures (Sub Chase), and high-speed racing (Auto Race). The lone licensed electronic game at the time was Battlestar Galactica Space Alert (page 6-7).
Finally, Brain Baffler was released for word and number game enthusiasts and the mysterious Horoscope Computer leveraged “authentic astrological tables” to provide forecasts up until December 31, 1987 (page 2).
