There’s never been a plane like it before!

After they acquired Argo Industries, Coleco continued to market toys from the company’s line of Junior Chef “See-It” toys, including the Tasty Custard Maker.

Budding confectioners aged 6-12 could whip up a batch of creamy custard by combining simple household ingredients with a packet of custard mix. The two-part process was facilitated by removing the top of the cone-shaped custard maker and pouring cold milk and custard mix into the inner compartment. Crushed ice and salt were then added to the outer freezer chamber.

Once all the ingredients were in place, the build-in handle was turned until the mixture was creamy smooth in consistency. To serve, young confectioners placed a cone under the Maker’s spout and pressed the cherry-shaped plunger on top of the cone.

In addition to Custard Maker, the set shipped with 16 custard cones, four packages of custard mix (strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, and lemon), and a tablespoon. Printed instructions were included in the box. To keep the custard flowing, Coleco sold four-packet refill sets via mail-order.

To spur interest in the Junior Chef line, Coleco engaged with children’s entertainer Shari Lewis (and her famous puppet Lamb Chop) to endorse the line. Shari appeared in several different box designs of the product, enjoying custard with her namesake sidekick.
