Hasbro’s 1986 catalogue featured a wide range of products that reflected the trends and interests of the time, showcasing the company’s continued commitment to creating fun and engaging toys for children.
Highlights in “Girls Toys” include the JEM line, centred around a fashion doll that embodied the dual identity of Jerrica Benton, a young executive who transformed into the rock star JEM with the help of holographic technology. The catalogue also featured new additions to the My Little Pony franchise, including So Soft Ponies covered in a velvety “fur” and Flutter Ponies, which had wings that moved up and down. Be sure to check out Get in Shape Girl, the company’s product line promoting physical fitness.
For boys, the catalogue prominently features Transformers and G.I. Joe action figures and playsets. Hasbro also rolled out Inhumanoids, one of our favourite toy lines that introduced children to Earth Corps, a group of scientist superheroes, and their ongoing battle against subterranean creatures named Metlar, Tendril, and D. Compose.
Animated television series tie-ins supported many of the lines in the catalogue to spur sales by exposing the characters and stories to a broader audience.
