Green Machine from Marx (1970s)

Introduced in the mid-1970s, The Green Machine was marketed by Marx as a high-performance ride-on for older kids, specifically targeting riders aged 8 to 10. Positioned as “the hottest ride in town,” the toy emphasized control, speed, and a distinctly different riding experience from traditional tricycles.

The ad highlights several key features, including adjustable bucket seats, a direct-drive pedal system, and stick-shift controls that allowed riders to steer using hand levers rather than handlebars. Swivel-action rear wheels enabled sharp turns and spinning maneuvers, supported by “racing slick” tires and a “tip-proof” low-slung frame that hugged the pavement. A super-size mag-style front wheel completed the aggressive, performance-driven look.
