In the late 1960s, Dinky released new Speedwheels models to compete with Mattel’s Hot Wheels, which were then gaining a foothold in the UK Marketplace.
The Speedwheels design combined plastic wheels with rubber tires for smoother and faster “rollability” compared to the metal wheels used on previous Dinky models. According to the company, the new wheels improved the playability of its toy cars and made them more visually appealing.
