Book and Record Sets from Power Records (1970s)

Company: Power Records | Release date: 1970s | Where to purchase: eBay

Book and Record Sets from Power Records deftly combine three of my favorite things: comic books, reading, and vinyl records.

Released mostly in the mid-1970s from Peter Pan Industries, each set consists of a 20-page fully illustrated color comic book and a corresponding 45 RPM record tucked into the back cover. Playing the record while reading the book brings the story to life with accompanying music and sound effects.

Book and Record Set releases primarily focused on superheroes from the Marvel and DC universes, like Batman, Spider Man, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Conan the Barbarian. Power Records also dabbled in popular science fiction from the day, producing sets for Star Trek, Space 1999, and Planet of the Apes.
