Aurora Movie Monsters (1964)

After entering the burgeoning hobby market in 1950, New York-based Aurora Plastics Corporation became one of the most prolific manufacturers of plastic scale model kits — a position it held for decades.

The first of Aurora’s 19-inch monster-themed kits came out in 1962 in partnership with Universal Studios. Frankenstein’s monster was the first release, followed by Dracula, Wolf Man, The Bride of Frankenstein. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Mummy, Godzilla, King Kong, and others.

Aurora sold almost 7.5 million monster kits by 1964. This dealer advertisement from the time shows all of the available kits in frightening glory, including our personal favourite, Big Frankie.
