Created by Chris Carter, The X-Files premiered on September 10, 1993. Starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, the series follows FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as they investigate unsolved cases involving unexplained phenomena. During its nine-season run, The X-Files earned 62 Emmy nominations and became one of the longest-running science fiction series in television history, later expanding into two feature films and returning for two additional seasons in 2016 and 2018. A reboot of the series is currently in development for Hulu from Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.
A collaboration between LEGO and Disney Entertainment, The X-Files set is a 1,478-piece model that invites adult builders to celebrate the iconic sci-fi drama in a whole new way. Spanning two levels, the set recreates several memorable moments from the series, pairing a detailed recreation of Fox Mulder’s office with a forest clearing scene and a hovering UFO. The set also includes eight minifigures—Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, The Flukeman, and a grey alien—giving fans everything they need to recreate countless classic encounters.
“This set is a wonderful celebration of the X-Files, and the fans who have kept its mystery alive,” says Gillian Anderson, who reprises her role as Dana Scully in a fun mini-film promoting the set. “The level of detail is brilliant – there are so many little nods that fans will absolutely recognize – and as a LEGO fan myself, I love that people can now quite literally build their own X-Files moments at home.”
The finished model is packed with authentic details, including a “The Truth is Out There” tile, an “I Want to Believe” poster, an X-Files dossier, a nod to Mulder’s sunflower seed habit, and the pencils lodged in the ceiling of his office. Thanks to its modular construction, the forest diorama can be showcased on its own, while Mulder’s office can be opened or partially disassembled to reveal its detailed interior. Mounted on a transparent stand to create the illusion that it’s hovering above the trees, the UFO can also be removed to create a striking dual-display presentation.
“I was obsessed with The X-Files from the moment I first saw it in the ’90s,” remarks fan designer and 3D artist Brent Waller, who submitted the original design through the LEGO Ideas platform, “I originally built Mulder’s office back in 2014 while rewatching the series, and it grew from there as a personal project. I wanted to combine nostalgia, detail and storytelling to capture the atmosphere of the show – from Mulder’s office to the forest and UFO encounter. I’m thrilled to see it become an official LEGO set and hope it resonates with both long-time fans and new audiences.”
Priced at $199.99 USD, the LEGO Ideas The X-Files set will be available to LEGO Insiders Early Access members beginning August 1, with wider retail availability following on August 4.
