Created by Chris Carter, The X-Files premiered on September 10, 1993. Starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, the series followed FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as they investigated unexplained phenomena and paranormal cases. During its original nine-season run, The X-Files received 62 Emmy nominations and became one of television’s longest-running science fiction dramas. The franchise later expanded with two feature films and returned for two additional seasons in 2016 and 2018. A new reboot of the series is currently in development for Hulu under director Ryan Coogler.
Developed in collaboration with Disney Entertainment, the LEGO Ideas The X-Files set recreates several memorable locations and characters from the series in a 1,478-piece display model. The build combines Fox Mulder’s office with a forest UFO encounter and includes eight minifigures: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, the Flukeman, and a grey alien.
The completed model features numerous references to the television series, including the “I Want to Believe” poster, “The Truth Is Out There” tile, Mulder’s X-Files dossier, his sunflower seeds, and the pencils lodged in the office ceiling. Thanks to its modular design, the forest scene can be displayed separately, while Mulder’s office opens to reveal its interior. The UFO is mounted on a transparent support to create the appearance of hovering above the trees.
The set originated through the LEGO Ideas platform and was designed by fan creator Brent Waller, whose original concept was selected for production by LEGO.
Priced at $199.99 USD, the LEGO Ideas The X-Files set was available to LEGO Insiders beginning August 1, followed by a wider retail release on August 4. Purchases made between August 1 and August 10 will also receive the LEGO Ideas The X-Files: Scully’s Lab promotional set, while supplies last.
