The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York announced the 2026 inductees to its World Video Game Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 7. Four video games received the honour: Angry Birds, Dragon Quest, FIFA International Soccer, and Silent Hill.
Founded in 2015, the World Video Game Hall of Fame honours exceptional electronic games from across arcade, console, computer, handheld, and mobile platforms. Games are evaluated based on four key criteria: icon status, longevity, global reach, and influence—ensuring each inductee is widely recognized, enduring, internationally impactful, and influential in shaping games, entertainment, or popular culture.
This year’s additions to the World Video Game Hall of Fame join previous inductees, including Super Mario Bros. (2015), Street Fighter II (2017), Microsoft Flight Simulator (2021), SimCity (2024), and Tamagotchi (2025). The 2026 inductees were chosen from among finalists that included Frogger, Galaga, League of Legends, Mega Man, PaRappa the Rapper, RuneScape, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Tokimeki Memorial.
The Strong is the only collections-based museum in the world focused exclusively on play, with the largest and most comprehensive collection of toys, games, and related artifacts.
The World Video Game Hall of Fame is part of the ESL Digital Worlds: High Score exhibit at The Strong, where visitors can explore examples of inducted games and experience select titles on large-scale, playable displays. Learn more about the World Video Game Hall of Fame.
