The journey continues!
Return to Middle-earth with The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Trick-Taking Game, a cooperative card game inspired by the second volume of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy epic.
Published between 1954 and 1955, The Lord of the Rings follows Frodo Baggins on a quest to destroy the One Ring. The trilogy has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide and has been adapted for the screen several times, including Ralph Bakshi’s animated film in 1978 and Peter Jackson’s live-action trilogy, which collectively earned 17 Academy Awards.
Designed by Bryan Bornmueller, this standalone follow-up to last year’s Fellowship of the Ring game is divided into 17 scenarios that track major events from The Two Towers. Scenarios reference key moments such as the capture of Merry and Pippin, the Battle of Helm’s Deep, and Frodo and Sam’s journey toward Mordor. Each scenario introduces its own objective, creating a structured sense of progression from one session to the next.
The game uses familiar trick-taking mechanics. Players follow suit when possible, play cards, and win tricks. Rather than competing, however, all players work cooperatively to meet each scenario’s goals. If any required objective is missed, the quest fails and the game ends.
Play options include solo, two-player, or cooperative play for up to four participants. Artwork by Elaine Ryan Elaine returns from the first game, using a stained-glass style to reinterpret characters, locations, and suits tied to different parts of the story.
Inside the box you’ll find 144 illustrated cards, a White Tower token, a Black Tower token, a Ring token, four Star tokens, four Burden tokens, and a rulebook. Average playtime is approximately 20 minutes, and the is recommended for ages 10 and up.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Trick-Taking Game is scheduled for release on January 16, 2026 with a listed MSRP of $26.99 USD.
