Star Wars Scale Model Kits from MPC (1978)

In 1978, Model Products Corporation (MPC) introduced a new series of models based on the Star Wars universe.

Designed to “rekindle the thrill of the actual film for the millions of Star Wars fans,” the line launched with four kits: C-3PO, R2-D2, Darth Vader’s Tie Fighter, and Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing Fighter.

The hallmarks of all four kits were attention to detail, authenticity, and multi-colour moulding.

For example, C-3PO was produced at 10 inches tall and included a movable torso, swinging arms, and a head that turned. While R2-D2 moved on rollers, had arms that pivoted, a retractable third leg, and a spinnable dome.

Not to be outdone, the two spaceships included detailed interiors, landing gear, and display stands.
