Star Bird Command Base from Milton Bradley (1978)

Company: Milton Bradley | Release date: 1978 | Ages: 7-14 | Where to purchase: eBay

In 1978, Milton Bradley released the Star Bird Command Base, a playset created to support the toy company’s electronic Star Bird spaceship released that same year.

Promoted as an “action control center”, the Command Base playset introduced new elements and scenarios to the Star Bird universe. Created from fiberboard and plastic, the Command Base included:

  • landing platforms for the Star Bird and Interceptor spacecraft (vehicles sold separately)
  • transport vehicle
  • anti-invasion laser guns
  • elevated control tower
  • working crane and hoist

The Command Base significantly extended the play possibilities of a lone hand-held Star Bird spaceship. Kids used their imaginations to create interstellar threats, battles, and victories.

Milton Bradley grew the Star Bird line to include the Avenger and Intruder spacecraft.
