Located in historic Burlington, Wisconsin, the Spinning Top & Yo-Yo Museum includes more than 2,000 antique and modern yo-yos, gyroscopes, and spin toys. The exhibition features both old and new offerings, such as Cracker Jack tops, American and French gyroscopes, and a variety of Duncan yo-yos.
Various interactive activities are also available to guests, including hands-on tops, spinning top games, optical illusions, and challenges to attempt. A video series highlights facts about spinning science.
Every visit includes a live demonstration by the museum’s curator, Judith Schulz, a.k.a. The Top Lady. Schulz shows a series of antique tops, performs some classic yo-yo tricks, and even performs a re-enactment of an iconic scene from the movie, My Summer Story, a sequel to A Christmas Story.
Schulz recommends that guests earmark three hours to fully experience the museum’s offerings, including a stop at the gift shop, which has more than 400 tops, logic brain puzzles, and books for sale.
Potential visitors are asked to check the museum’s website for the most up-to-date schedule of hours, presentations, and yo-yo classes.
