There’s a new way for families to get to Sesame Street, thanks to Sesame Place San Diego. The park’s California setting is only the second of its kind in the United States based on the award-winning children’s educational television program, joining a Pennsylvania-based location that opened way back in 1980.
The combination theme park and water park covers 17 acres and mixes 18 Sesame Street-themed rides with a variety of interactive experiences for all ages. Water-based attractions include Big Bird’s Beach (a giant wave pool), Elmo’s Silly Sand Slides, and Oscar’s Rotten Rafts. On the dry side, families can take in the Sunny Day Carousel, Super Grover’s Box Car Derby (a kid-friendly roller coaster), and Abby’s Fairy Flight (a family swing ride.)
Other attractions include a daily Sesame Street Party Parade that features all the characters from the beloved franchise, and a full-scale replica of the Sesame Street neighbourhood, including the iconic 123 Sesame Street address, front stoop, and an interactive version of Oscar the Grouch’s garbage can.
A variety of in-park dining options and the Hooper’s Store gift shop complete the experience.
