Like the recently released Rubik’s Cube Impossible, Spin Master’s latest version of its popular brain teaser puzzle, Rubik’s Phantom, incorporates a technological design twist to ramp up the difficulty.
Each of the 26 cubelets in the 3×3 cube has been given a temperature-sensitive thermochromic coating. The fluctuation in temperature that occurs when the cube is touched causes the Phantom to temporarily reveal the colour of a tile before eventually fading to black.
Cubers need to to memorize and track individual colours for each tile as they are temporarily revealed, all while twisting and turning their way to the final solution. It’s one of the most challenging of the company’s Rubik’s collection.
Rubik’s Phantom is set to drop this Fall at a retail price of $19.99 USD. Rubik’s website provides links to available retailers in North America.
