Released in 1991 from Bluebird, the Polly’s Dream World playset inspired imaginative play with its many pastel-infused environments and tiny figures, allowing children to create countless miniature adventures for Polly and friends.
The toy presented a multitude of elements to capture the attention of Polly fans, encouraging different play patterns and storytelling scenarios. An eight-section scalloped base provided the foundation of Polly’s world. Atop the base sat a two-storey home that hinged open to reveal detailed rooms outfitted with familiar household items. The house featured a rooftop terrace with a lounger, parasol, and hidden stairwell to access the space.
Outside, the home was appointed with a water fountain and a purple path that led to seven unique activity regions:
- hobby farm with a cow, bull, pig, and two ponies
- summerhouse
- rock pool
- campsite with tent
- treehouse
- playground with a slide, swing, roundabout, and pool
- pond, dock, canoe, and secret cave with hidden treasure
Six figures came with the set: three Polly figures in different outfits, plus friends Matt, Lulu, and Midge. Two storage compartments flanked the house, providing space to store the loose accessories, such as a tiny pink and blue convertible car.
Bluebird Toys was a British company founded in 1980 by Torquil Norman. Their first toy was the Big Yellow Teapot, a plastic teapot with tiny residents that reimagined the classic dollhouse. It launched the Polly Pocket series in 1989, a collection of miniature dolls and accessories housed in plastic compacts. The line was greeted with enthusiasm, earning legions of fans and inspiring collectors. Mattel purchased Bluebird in 1998 and continues to release new toys featuring Polly and friends.
