Pac-Man Turns 35!


Video game developer and publisher Namco first released Pac-Man in Japan on May 22, 1980. The game was licensed and released in the United States by Bally/Midway on October 1980.

Each of the four ghosts in the game has a nickname: Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde.

The original arcade version of Pac-Man has a highest possible score of 3,333,360.

Each maze contains 240 small ‘pac-dots’ worth 10 points each that must be eaten.

Most Successful

In 2005 Pac-Man received the Guinness World Records award for being the “Most Successful Coin-Operated Game”.


The song ‘Pac-Man Fever’ was released in 1982 and went to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Milton Bradley released a board game based on Pac-Man in 1982.
