The Hot Wheels Legends Tour is a traveling car show that takes place in primarily in Walmart parking lots in major cities across the United States. At each stop, auto enthusiasts display their real-life custom car builds with in hopes of seeing their creation selected to be immortalized as a Hot Wheels toy. Entries are judged on three criteria: authenticity, creativity, and “garage spirit.” Winners are inducted into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends and the winning vehicle is mass-produced in 1/64 scale.
This year’s tour kicked off on March 7th in Miami, Florida, and the original 18-date run was scheduled to end on October 17th in Phoenix, Arizona. Due to COVID-19, Mattel is pivoting to an online format, having test-run a successful virtual event on May 16th. While the excitement of live events can’t be duplicated virtually, this move ensures builders and entrants from across the US can enter the competition from the comfort and safety of their homes.
