Hot Shot from Power Wheels (1989)

Released in 1989 by Power Wheels, Hot Shot was one of the company’s battery-powered cars for children aged 3-7.

Made to resemble a sports car, Hot Shot was powered by a heavy-duty 6-volt battery, which allowed it to achieve “toddler pace,” according to advertisements of the time.

In addition to allowing young drivers to move forward and in reverse, the riding toy had several additional bells and whistles, including a dashboard with a pretend key, floorboards, and a driver’s door that opened and closed. For budding mechanics, Hot Shot’s hood could also be opened to reveal a pretend engine bull of play plugs and wires that encouraged tinkering.

In 1994, the Power Wheels Line was bought by Mattel, who placed it under their Fisher-Price subsidiary.
