Fencing Swords Set from Wham-O (1958)

Before becoming a major player in the novelty toy market, Wham-O enjoyed success with several lines of weapons and sporting goods.

The company’s Fencing Swords set let wannabe Fencers practice sword fighting. Known for its masterful marketing, Wham-O downplayed the inherent danger of the set by promoting its ease of use and capacity for “developing quick thinking coordination and posture” in its users.

The set consisted of two 40-inch-long swords made of fine-tempered spring steel, with safety tips and polished metal guard hilts. A pair of masks and an instruction booklet rounded out the package.
