Electrocraft Beginner’s Electrical Workshop from Remco (1957)

Company: Remco | Release date: 1957 | Where to purchase: eBay

An early entry in Remco’s line of educational science sets, the Electrocraft Beginner’s Electrical Workshop (No. 405) introduced children to the basics of circuitry through a variety of simple, self-contained experiments. Released in 1957, the set included a test panel, a small parts box, bulbs, a battery, hook-up wire, a buzzer, a screwdriver, and a wrench. Additional components included various parts needed to assemble working electrical setups, including switch contact washers, spring battery contacts, a fastening bar, and a lamp holder strip.

Remco’s instruction book for the kit provided a series of “electrical workshop jobs,” such as the Flashlight and Searchlight circuits and a telegraph buzzer. All parts were designed to mount securely to the test panel, allowing users to wire, test, and adjust each project safely.

COLLECTOR CONSIDERATIONS:

Look for sets with the original instruction book, a working test panel, and a parts box containing all components. The original packaging features the 1950s-style Remco logo and a familiar red-and-black colour palette.
