Duke, the Super Action Dog from Kenner (1974)

A vintage comic book advertisement from 1974 for Duke, the Super Action Dog from Kenner.

Before Kenner struck pay dirt with their Star Wars toy line, the company released a series different action figures that included a fully articulated canine named Duke. A mashup of Rin Tin Tin, Lassie, and Joe, the German Shepherd from ‘70s Saturday morning TV show Run, Joe, Run, Duke stood 7” tall and 9” long. To make him capable of “super action,” Kenner also shipped a variety of Duke-themed activity sets and accessories, including a searchlight, portable rescue unit, water tank, and an underground H.Q., complete with a periscope.

Remember the toys and games of years past through vintage advertising – for better and for worse!
