The Chessmen Museum showcases the art and artistry of chess pieces from around the world.
Opened in 2006, the Chessmen Museum was founded by Ridder Dijkshoorn to display his personal collection. Exhibitions of antique and contemporary pieces anchor the artifacts, which have since expanded to include the collection of MJ Glotzbach. The Museum underscores the vast array of chess pieces available today. Highlights include pieces based on Pokémon characters, Viking history, religious iconography, musicians, animals, and American history, along with more traditional wood and metal pieces.
The Museum offers both permanent and rotating exhibits. Visitors can also take part in monthly educational sessions and design competitions.
