Bug World from Playskool (1978)

Company: Playskool | Release date: 1978 | Ages: 2-6 | Where to purchase: eBay

Released in 1978 from Playskool, the Bug World playset reimagined the lives of bugs to mimic the human world, complete with a shower and car.

The box teased, “fun in the fantasy land of Bug World”. The toy delivered on the concept of a fantasy environment for three little bug residents.

The plastic playset included two distinct play areas: a brown underground abode and a green rooftop garden. The interior included built-in bug beds, bottlecap table, nail light, and eggshell shower. A drive-out garage housed a car made of a half-walnut with button wheels. An elevator chute moved the bugs up through the house to the rooftop garden. Once on the rooftop, the bugs could hang out in the vegetable hiding places or lounge in the pea pod hammock.

IN THE BOX

A complete playset included the bug house, three bug figures, car, lamp, table, shower, and vegetables. Assembly instructions were included.
