Microsoft launched the XBOX in North America on November 15th, 2001.
Powered by a custom Intel Pentium III processor, the gaming system competed with the Sony PlayStation 2 and was one of the first devices to offer online play through a broadband connection. With exclusive titles like Halo 2, Jet Set Radio Future, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the XBOX quickly solidified itself as a major player in the market, spawning one of the most recognizable names in the gaming industry and selling over 24 million units before finally being discontinued in 2009.
Now, in celebration of the landmark console’s 25th anniversary, Mattel announced a new addition to its popular Brick Shop building brand—an authentic 1:1-scale replica of the original XBOX. Comprised of 3,509 pieces, the kit not only features a life-size buildable XBOX console, but also the Duke—the system’s original and controversial controller—and a series of modular dioramas based on three classic games: Halo: Combat Evolved, Psychonauts, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The set also includes 12 NanoWorld figures that let fans recreate memorable moments from the featured games.
In addition, the controller buttons bring the dioramas to life with illuminated lighting effects and corresponding sounds from each of the three games. There’s even a hidden button combination that triggers an exclusive lighting sequence, while opening the console activates the XBOX’s startup audio.
Priced at $324.99 USD, the Brick Shop Microsoft XBOX is now available for pre-order through Mattel Creations and select specialty retailers. It is scheduled to ship by October 16th.
