Blockbuster: The Game from Big Potato Games

The golden era of video rentals, drop-off boxes, and staff picks is now captured in a new party game from UK-based Big Potato Games. Blockbuster: The Game accommodates 4-12 players, ages 12-and up, and is geared to “anyone that has ever seen a movie.”

Gameplay takes place in two rounds. The first round is Movie Buzzer Battle, a frenetic winner-take-all showdown between a single player chosen from each team. A movie-related topic, like “famous trilogies,” is revealed and each selected team member takes turns shouting out a related movie and slapping a mechanical buzzer. The first player to draw a blank on related movie titles loses the round.

Round two is called Triple Charades Jeopardy. Each team is given the names of three classic films, and one member of the group attempts to get their team to guess the movie. They can deploy one of three techniques: acting out a scene from the film, describing the movie in one word, or making up a quote about the film. The first team to correctly guess a film in all eight genres wins.

Blockbuster: The Game is packaged in a retro Blockbuster VHS box and comes with 200 classic movie cards, 60 category cards, and a game board in the shape of a parking lot, complete with the company’s famous blue-and-yellow sign.

The game checks in at $19.99 and is available exclusively at Target.
