In the 1940s, Chicago’s D.A. Pachter Co. introduced Bild-A-Set, a line of paper-based premiums designed for children.
One release in the series, Junior Girls in Uniforms (#80), featured 10 paper dolls with mix-and-match outfits. Each doll stood over 12 inches tall and was printed on pre-perforated cardboard sheets. A foldable base allowed the dolls to stand upright for display or play.
Each punch-out figure was given a first name—Ann, Betty, Carol, Dixie, Dotty, Jean, Joy, Pat, Peggy, and Sally—and came with more than 25 interchangeable uniforms. Each outfit included front and back pieces held in place by foldable tabs.
The set also included a small booklet titled History of Girls in Service, which offered a historical background on the uniforms represented in the collection.
