Model train enthusiasts can add to their collection with the release of four new Beatles-licensed freight wagons from Hornby.
The UK-based producer of train sets, railcars, model buildings, and accessories is one of the oldest licensees of Beatles merchandise. The company began licensing Beatles collectibles in the mid-1960s with its Corgi Yellow Submarine diecast model. The Eurostar train model was released in the mid-1990s, then the Magical Mystery tour bus, and most recently the Eurostar Class 373 Yellow Submarine train pack.
Coming in the spring of 2021, Hornby will offer four new Beatles-branded freight wagons. The 1:76, OO gauge train wagons include the Yellow Submarine, Magical Mystery Tour, Help!, and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band models, each emblazoned with images familiar to fans of the legendary British band.
The model railway hobby has taken on new life in the midst of the pandemic. Sales at Hornby increased by 33% during the first half of 2020 as people revisit their love of hobby railways, take up an interest in model trains, and look to fill time during lockdown.
