Mattel released the twelfth edition of its iconic Barbie DreamHouse and Barbie’s new abode includes some modern updates.
Barbie’s DreamHouse has always kept pace with the times and provided children with an upscale sense of reality. The first DreamHouse — released in 1962 — was a mid-century modern design with slim-line furniture. Over the years, Barbie’s properties have included townhomes, a cottage, a single-family suburban home, a mansion, and other residences fit for the queen of the toy world.
The 2021 version of the Barbie DreamHouse continues to seek inspiration from contemporary design. Measuring 43 inches tall and 41 inches wide, the DreamHouse includes over 75 play pieces and 10 play spaces, such as a party room with DJ booth, working wheelchair-access elevator, second-storey slide with pool, balcony with hammock swing, and a puppy play space that includes its very own slide and pool. There are also custom light settings (day mode, night mode, party mode, and mood lighting) and soundscapes to help create different home environments.
Outdoor living plays a big role in the new DreamHouse thanks to the rooftop deck, BBQ, and other accessories.
The new Barbie DreamHouse is recommended for children ages three and older.
