A daily look back at the toys, games, and objects that captured our attention as children and continue to fascinate us today.

Balloon Race to Devil’s Canyon from Kenner (1974)

Kenner Products’ line of High Adventure playsets encouraged children to send their Scout figures on action-packed adventures in the great outdoors. Steve and Bob Scout took their chances on snowy ridges, wilderness look-out towers, and in hot air balloons.

The Balloon Race to Devil’s Canyon playset came complete with an inflatable balloon, observation basket, hooks, and string. The set-up was quick so the adventures could begin immediately. By simply manipulating the string, the balloon would “float” up and down as Steve and Bob enjoyed the view. A mini comic, included in the package, ignited the imagination and created a platform for future adventures.

Up, up, and away!
