Auto-Rama Miniature Racing from Gilbert Toys (1963)

Gilbert Toys’ Auto-Rama miniature car racing line was pitched as an auto racing game that required “real racing skills.” This 1961 dealer advertisement features the Fly-Over Chicane, an add-on accessory that could be installed on any American Flyer Auto-Rama race set.

The kit consisted of a jump ramp that allowed cars to jump across a section of the racetrack and continue racing. The Fly-Over Chicane came complete with an approach ramp, landing ramp, railings, flags, and working red warning light. Two manual switches were integrated into the toy, allowing kids to make their cars change lanes in mid-air.
