Available for purchase from 1961 to 1965, the Auto-Rama race sets from A.C. Gilbert consisted of 1:32-scale slot cars with 2- and 3-rail chassis, as well as a variety of track combinations and accessories, like a lap counter and mechanical timer. A 3-rail power system allowed the slot cars to change lanes and perform a variety of other stunts. Gilbert’s Chicane Kits took advantage of this feature and added some unpredictability to race days. The Auto-Rama Indianapolis Speedway Race Set included a Fly-Over Chicane that included an approach and descent ramp so the cars could both jump a gap in the race track and change lanes in the process.
