The phrase “modern vintage” might seem like an oxymoron, but it is an accurate description of Brooklyn, NY-based Candylab Toys. The company offers a line of minimalist wooden cars, inspired by classic American muscle cars of the 1960s and 1970s.
Each car is crafted from solid beech wood, colored with non-toxic, water-based paint, and topped off with a clear urethane finish coat. A set of food-grade rubber tires and plastic rims completes the look.
In terms of dimensions, the cars average over 7-inches in length, 2.8-inches wide, and almost 2-inches in height, giving them a weight of more than 9oz each. These attributes allow the toy cars to provide a solid play experience and handle lots of abuse.
A spin through the company’s online store reveals a number of appealing options. Our favorite is the Stinger, complete with a fastback roofline, racing stripe paint job, and chunky red taillights.
In addition to providing an option to purchase directly from the company, Candylab’s wares are available from a variety of other online resellers. Prices start at $24.99 USD and up.
