Wizard

Frank Miller infamously referred to Wizard as a “bible written by satan”. Needless to say, Wizard magazine had its share of both critics and fans.

Published from 1991-2011, Wizard featured news and reviews of comics and comic-related movies, TV, and movies. The publication was a bestseller from its first issue but behind the scenes, things weren’t so rosy. After a change in top-level management and a downsizing of on-staff writers, Wizard changed its business model and things were never the same. After steadily losing readership after years of success, the publication folded in 2011.

Back-issues of Wizard are worth picking up, particularly those published in its first decade. You can find those at used booksellers and on eBay.
