Editor’s Note — Space: 1999 was a science-fiction television series that originally aired from 1975 to 1977. Produced by Sylvia and Gerry Anderson, the show followed the lives of a crew aboard the Moonbase Alpha monitoring and research centre as the moon on which they were stationed was jettisoned into deep space after a nuclear explosion. In 1976, Mattel capitalized on the interest in the series with a collection of toys that encouraged children to reenact the events of the show and imagine their own galactic adventures.
