Editor’s Note: Science Ninja Team Gatchaman was a Japanese anime series that debuted in 1972. In 1978, the series was reimagined for American audiences as Battle of the Planets. The franchise went on to inspire sequels, toys, model kits, comics, and other media. At the 2022 edition of San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that a live-action film adaptation was in development, with the Russo brothers attached to the project.
