Editor’s Note: Produced in the 1950s by Child Guidance, the Add-A-Count educational toy helped children develop basic math skills. Designed for ages 4 to 7, it featured a plastic scale and 14 weighted numbers, each with a small hook at the top. To succeed, kids had to balance the scale by placing number combinations of equal weight on both sides. If the totals didn’t match, the scale remained tipped. The toy encouraged counting and number recognition in a playful and stress-free manner.
