Author and toy enthusiast, Blake Wright, is back with Volume 3 of his popular book series Toys That Time Forgot, which documents toys that were never released to the public.
As with Volumes 1 and 2, Wright began with a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund the latest edition. Toy Tales spoke with him about the upcoming publication and how the COVID-19 pandemic affected his approach to it. Wright explained, “I would have ordinarily sat down face-to-face with the majority of my sources. Last year made that impossible for the most part. So, I adapted and conducted many of the interviews via Zoom, Skype or a simple phone call.”
Leaning on his journalistic experience, Wright uncovers the toys and their stories in a 200-plus page hardcover book that documents 20 projects that failed to launch. Each toy is presented as part art object, part historical artifact. All books in the series pay homage to the toys their creators with colourful and beautifully photographed editions.
Can readers look forward to a Volume 4? “I like the idea of a trilogy,” Wright shared. While we won’t get our hopes up, we look forward to hearing more from Wright about the toy world in whatever form that takes.
Volume 1 is currently sold out and out of print. Volumes 2 and 3 are available through Wright directly.
