Blast off for out-of-this-world excitement with the Tintin Moon Rocket from LEGO, a detailed display model inspired by one of the intrepid reporter’s most memorable adventures.
Created by Belgian cartoonist Hergé, The Adventures of Tintin debuted as a weekly French comic strip on January 10, 1929. The series follows a young investigative journalist, Tintin on globe-spanning escapades alongside his dog Snowy and companions including Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus, and the detectives Thomson and Thompson. Now managed by Moulinsart SA, the franchise has sold more than 280 million books worldwide in over 70 languages and has been adapted for radio, television, theatre, including a Golden Globe-winning film directed by Steven Spielberg.
Designed for adult builders, the Tintin Moon Rocket set is a 1,283-piece recreation of the distinctive red-and-white rocket featured in Destination Moon and Explorers on the Moon. Standing approximately 19.5 inches tall when assembled, the model translates the rocket’s clean, geometric design into a brick-built display piece.
The set includes six minifigures: Tintin, Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus, and Thomson and Thompson. Each is outfitted in orange spacesuits with removable helmets and oxygen tanks, along with a Snowy figure. A removable panel at the top of the rocket reveals a compact interior control room, allowing builders to place a minifigure inside and recreate the story’s lunar voyage.
The model originated through the LEGO Ideas platform, submitted by Portugal-based fan designer Alexis Dos Santos. Launched in 2008, LEGO Ideas allows fans to to propose new set concepts, with selected designs progressing through review and eventual production.
“Creating the Tintin Moon Rocket has been an incredible journey”, said Dos Santos. “I wanted to capture the spirit of Tintin’s iconic rocket in a way that celebrates both its engineering elegance and its place in pop culture. Recreating its curvature and connecting the three floors pushed my creativity, and seeing it finally come together with all the minifigures in their space suits has been incredibly rewarding. I hope the build sparks the same sense of imagination and adventure that inspired me from the very beginning.”
Priced at $159.99 USD, the LEGO Ideas Tintin Moon Rocket is available through LEGO Stores and LEGO.com, with wider retail availability beginning April 4.
