The town of Giengen an der Brenz in southern Germany is world-famous as the home of plush toy company, Steiff. The Steiff Museum opened in 2005 to commemorate the company’s 125th anniversary.
The interactive toy museum offers visitors access to more than 2,000 Steiff toys displayed throughout 2,400 square meters. One of the location’s primary attractions is a walk-through Steiff “petting zoo,” featuring a variety of life-size plush animals, including exotic fish, tigers, lions, polar bears, and giant gorillas.
The museum also boasts a 15-meter long slide extending from the second to first floors. It’s fabricated with over 60 square meters of mohair and resembles a giant snake, making it the longest plush slide in the world.
A small working factory allows museum visitors to see the step-by-step production and craftsmanship that goes into each Steiff animal. An on-site gift shop and bistro round out the attractions.
