One of the most popular video game toy collaborations in recent years is expanding.
Following successful partnerships in 2016 and 2021, LEGO and SEGA are again teaming up on a new range of building sets based on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Originally introduced as a launch title for the 16-bit Genesis gaming console, the iconic Blue Blur is one of the most beloved mascots the world over — and one of the few to give Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. a run for its money during the Console War of the 1990s.
With the new Sonic the Hedgehog collection, fans can bring all the fun and excitement of the games to life as they build, create, and play with Sonic, Tails, Amy, and other characters in a host of familiar settings from across the Sonic Universe. Slated for a summer release, the new collection features four unique sets, including Amy’s Animal Rescue Island, Sonic’s Speed Sphere Challenge, Tails’s Workshop And Tornado Plane, and Sonic’s Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge. Each set features varying levels of building complexity and a host of modular elements that invite builders to create numerous high-velocity obstacles for Sonic to blast through as he battles the forces of the evil Dr. Eggman and rescues his friends.
“The LEGO Group is the leader in play, and the perfect partner to bring exciting stories, iconic characters & environments from the Sonic universe to life in fans’ living rooms globally,” said Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Business & Brand Officer at SEGA of America, in a recent press release. “Through our creative collaboration with the LEGO Group, Sonic fans of all generations can use their imaginations to play out their favorite Sonic moments.”
The new offerings encourage fans to get creative and go beyond the instruction booklet. Builders can construct one-of-a-kind courses, combine sets, and invent new storylines as they interact with all-new toy accessories and enjoy unique role-playing opportunities that will allow them to jump into Sonic’s red-and-white sneakers like never before.
Whether you’re scratching records at the DJ deck or chowing down on chili dogs, LEGO’s new Sonic the Hedgehog product range offers a grab bag full of fun activities for fans of any age.
