Unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show 2026, LEGO SMART Play is a new interactive platform designed to enhance play experiences for kids and families. Using integrated technology, the system allows builders to bring LEGO creations to life through responsive, real-time interaction.
Positioned as one of the brand’s most significant developments since the introduction of the Minifigure in 1978, LEGO SMART Play combines a rechargeable SMART Brick with SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures. The SMART Brick incorporates sensors, accelerometers, light and sound detection, and a miniature speaker, enabling builds to respond dynamically with appropriate sounds and behaviours during play.
LEGO SMART Play will make its debut within the Star Wars universe through three all-in-one building sets inspired by the original trilogy. Scheduled for release this spring, the sets recreate key moments using interactive elements such as lightsaber hums, blaster fire, and musical cues from The Imperial March. Real-time feedback is designed to deepen engagement with familiar characters, vehicles, and locations.
Details for the three announced sets are as follows.
LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter ($69.99 USD)
This 473-piece set centres on Darth Vader and his iconic starfighter. It includes a brick-built Rebel Outpost, an Imperial Fueling Station, a SMART Minifigure of Darth Vader, and a Rebel Fleet Trooper Minifigure. Interactive features include engine sounds and other audio effects triggered through the LEGO SMART Brick.
LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Luke’s Red Five X-Wing ($89.99 USD)
The 584-piece set includes SMART Minifigures of Luke Skywalker in his pilot suit and Princess Leia, along with R2-D2, Rebel crew members, and Stormtroopers. Additional builds include an Imperial turret, transporter, and command centre. Interactive effects such as laser fire, engine sounds, lighting cues, refuelling, and repair sounds are activated using the SMART Brick, two SMART Minifigures, and five SMART Tags.
LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Throne Room Duel and A-Wing ($159.99 USD)
This 962-piece set recreates the climactic duel from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. It includes SMART Minifigures of Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, and Luke Skywalker in his Jedi attire, allowing players to reinterpret one of the most recognizable scenes from the original trilogy through interactive play.
The LEGO SMART Play all-in-one Star Wars sets are available for pre-order through the official LEGO website and will arrive at select retailers beginning on March 1, with additional sets planned for later release.
