On December 3rd, 1994, the Sony PlayStation debuted in Japan. Going head-to-head with heavy hitters from Nintendo and SEGA, this 32-bit game system not only became the first in history to ship over 100 million units, but also stands as the strongest-selling console brand worldwide.
Now, on the cusp of the PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, Sony Interactive is honouring the history and joy of the original device with the launch of the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection. This series of limited-edition items pays homage to three wonderful decades of gaming. Reminiscent of the very first PlayStation console, these one-of-a-kind products feature the original grey colour palette integrated into the latest line of PS5 products.
First up is the PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle. Featuring classic colours and special anniversary badging, this beautiful set includes a limited-edition, individually numbered PlayStation 5 Pro Console with a two-terabyte solid-state-drive, Wi-Fi 7 support, matching DualSense wireless controller, DualSense Edge wireless controller, DualSense charging station, disc drive console cover, and a vertical support stand. Several special collector’s items have also been included, from an original PlayStation controller-style cable connector housing and four PlayStation Shape cable ties to a PlayStation sticker, limited-edition PlayStation poster featuring one of 30 unique designs, and a PlayStation paperclip.
A PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle is also being released and will feature a limited-edition PlayStation 5 Pro Console with a one-terabyte solid-state-drive, matching DualSense wireless controller, disc drive console cover, and a vertical support stand. It also includes all of the collector’s items from the PlayStation 5 Pro Console bundle. Again, Sony is offering several standalone items, including a PlayStation Portal Remote Player, the DualSense Edge wireless controller, and the DualSense wireless controller — all complete with special anniversary badging and colours.
