Moonlite combines the Viewmaster concept with storybooks, projection, and mobile phones to create an immersive storytime for children ages 2 to 7 years old.
The mobile projector clips onto a compatible iOS or Android phone and uses the device’s built-in flash to project images from an 12-image reel onto a wall or ceiling. A free companion app provides the story text with complementary sound effects to enhance the experience. Proprietary “page detection software” tracks when the picture reel is manually rotated and turns the on-screen page accordingly.
The Moonlite story library currently includes 10 titles, such as some classics (Curious George, The Ugly Duckling) and recent New York Times best-sellers (If You Ever Want to Bring An Alligator to School, Don’t, Wherever You Go). The company is developing partnerships with other publishers to offer even more titles down the road.
After crushing its Kickstarter campaign, Moonlite is now available online and at Target Stores in the U.S. and Mastermind Toys in Canada. A Starter Pack (1 Moonlite, three Story Reels, an Activation Card, and Quick Start Guide) checks in at $24.99USD. A Gift Pack with two additional Story Reels is $39.99. Individual story reels are $7.99.
