This year marks the 100th anniversary of Hasbro. In celebration, the toy and game giant has teamed up with WS Game Company to create a new version of the Monopoly board game.
NEW FEATURES
Debuting at the Las Vegas Licensing Expo in June, this new limited edition of the classic game features a redesigned board highlighting 90 notable brands from Hasbro’s history. Uniquely designed Lincoln Log houses and custom Littlest Pet Shop hotels are also included alongside eight custom diecast tokens modelled after some of Hasbro’s other iconic brands, such as Transformers, Tonka, Mr. Potato Head, and My Little Pony.
Additional features include an integrated banker tray as well as custom money and Title Deed, Chance, and Community Chest cards. Topping it off is a deluxe embossed collector’s edition tin box designed to make this commemorative edition of the game a standout in any collection.
“As we celebrate 100 years, Hasbro remains guided by our purpose to create joy and community for all people around the world, one game, one toy, one story at a time,” said Adam Biehl, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Hasbro Gaming in a recent press release. “Monopoly has long reigned as the world’s most popular board game, so it just felt fitting for us to collaborate with WS Game Company on a truly special edition highlighting our iconic portfolio of brands and characters.”
While there is currently no word on whether or not this newest version of the game will feature any changes over standard Monopoly, Hasbro does tease some hidden surprises for fans. “The MONOPOLY: Hasbro 100th Anniversary Edition is truly a love letter to our fans,” Biehl continues. “There are Easter Eggs that we’ve sprinkled in throughout the game for eagle-eyed fans to find – see if you can count all 90 brands on the board!”
ABOUT MONOPOLY
Originally designed as an educational tool to help explain the single-tax rule of Henry George, the Monopoly game was first published by Parker Brothers in 1935 and eventually acquired by Hasbro in 1991. In the 88 years since its debut, Monopoly has seen a number of variations released and partnered with some of the biggest names in popular culture – including Jurassic World, Star Wars, and Super Mario.
One of the most widely known board games on the planet, Monopoly has made use of advancing consumer technologies to remain fresh amid an ever-changing industry. It continues to be one of the best-selling mass-produced board games in the world.
The Hasbro 100th Anniversary Edition of Monopoly is priced at $49 USD and is slated to start shipping in mid-July 2023.
