In the early 1970s, Marvel Comics teamed up with publisher, Third Eye, Inc., on a series of 24 psychedelic black-light posters that continue to command high prices on the secondary market today.
Abrams ComicArts has come out with fresh reproductions of the iconic posters in a groovy two-volume set. The first 12 posters comprise Marvel Classic Black Light Collectible Poster Portfolio Volume 1 and were released in November 2021. The remaining 12 posters complete the original portfolio are included in Volume 2, to be released in October 2022. The characters include many Marvel fan-favourites, such as Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor, and Doctor Strange.
Each poster is 20-inches x 20-inches and is printed on heavy cardstock in fluorescent inks to allow for peak black-light viewing. The back of each print includes information about the original comic book panel upon which it is based, the issue in which it can be found, who wrote it, and the artist.
An archival storage box and a booklet outlining the brief history of Third Eye and their Marvel Comics publishing history by historian and former Marvel editor-in-chief, Roy Thomas, complete the package.
