More than six decades after the first Hot Wheels cars hit the market, Mattel has introduced a new track system aimed at rethinking how kids (and collectors) build with the brand. The Speed Snap Track System offers a modular approach designed to simplify assembly and expand play possibilities.
The secret behind Mattel’s new modular system is its simple snap-together design. The goal, according to Mattel, was to streamline the setup process and allow for faster experimentation with track layouts. Adapters ensure backward compatibility with legacy Hot Wheels track pieces, allowing fans to expand and enhance existing builds without starting from scratch.
The launch also includes the Hot Wheels Track Creator app, available as a free download for iOS and Android. The app offers step-by-step 3D instructions for set assembly, along with suggested layouts and building ideas.
Roberto Stanichi, executive vice president and global head of vehicles and building sets at Mattel, described the Speed Snap product line as a response to user feedback. “From easier assembly to more seamless play and simpler storage, we accepted the challenge,” he said in a statement. “The Speed Snap Track System is our response, a breakthrough system designed to make track building as intuitive as snapping pieces together.”
Playsets began appearing in select stores on June 1, with broader availability expected in the fall. The first wave includes:
- Triple Loop Speed Kit priced – $29.99 USD
- Boosted Jump Speedway Kit – $39.99 USD.
- Straight Track Packs – $2.99 USD
